Douglas R. Hoffman concentrates his practice in creditor's rights, banking law, commercial and civil litigation, and municipal law. His experience includes service as both State's Attorney and Assistant State's Attorney for Jefferson County, bringing valuable prosecutorial experience to his current practice.
Mr. Hoffman graduated magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2006 and is admitted to practice before multiple federal courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He has appeared in notable cases, including Dobbs v. Wiggins, 401 Ill.App.3d 367 (5th Dist. 2010).
His commitment to community service is exemplified through his current roles as Board Member and Treasurer of Spero Family Services, and his service on the Rome Grade School Board and Foundation. He has previously served as Board Chair of Illinois YMCA Youth & Government, Inc., President of the Downtown Mt. Vernon Development Corporation, and on various other community boards.
Mr. Hoffman has shared his expertise through speaking engagements, including presentations on local anti-crime program funding at the Illinois Crimestoppers Association Annual Conference and Tier II reporting at the Illinois Oil and Gas Association Fall Meeting.

Practice Areas
Our firm represents various municipalities as attorney of record, assisting our clients with transactions, ordinance drafting, employment issues, governance, and litigation (ordinance enforcement, demolition actions, etc.).
Our firm represents several local banks as well as some regional and national banks. We provide our banking clients with representation concerning almost all aspects of their business, including mortgage foreclosures, loan document preparation and analysis, transactional advice, secured property, title examinations, replevin and various other matters. We also represent our banking clients in litigation.
Our civil litigation practice encompasses a wide range of disputes, including insurance defense, personal injury, and general civil practice. We handle contract disputes, liens and lien foreclosures, damage claims, employment issues, real estate taxation, forcible entry and detainer, and various other civil practice matters. We also handle appeals and frequently act as local counsel in Southern Illinois.
Our firm represents creditors in all aspects of bankruptcy proceedings. We do not practice debtor bankruptcy. Representation includes filing of claims, contested matters, appearances in bankruptcy court and document review.
The firm has handled hundreds of appeals in numerous areas of the law. Even if we were not the attorney for the trial level, we can review and handle your appeal. The Fifth Appellate District is nearly the entire southern third of Illinois, the courthouse is based down the street from our office in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
